Homemade Lotion for Healthy Skin

Did you know that your skin is your body’s largest organ? And, that everything you put on your skin seeps into your bloodstream? Have you heard you should be able to eat your cosmetics? Well, these things are true.

When it comes to body lotion, I prefer the natural stuff. It just doesn’t seem right to slather all of those chemicals on myself or my loved ones especially, if anyone has “sensitive” skin. Therefore, great mom that I am, I decided to find a recipe for homemade lotion online. I stumbled upon this one and we have loved it ever since. It is super-easy to make and it makes great gifts too! It can be used for skin or hair if you use leave-in conditioning creams.

I buy my ingredients at Earth fare. I hope it is a hit for you too!

Body Lotion

  • 1 cup of pure oil (I combine almond and grape seed)
  • ¾ cup water
  • 2-3 T shaved beeswax
  • 30 drops of essential oil for scent (any scent you like)
  • Place water in a glass blender. Heat oil over low heat and add beeswax to melt, add the essential oil. With the blender running, pour the oil and wax mixture through the hole in the lid and voila, you have lotion!

I transfer the lotion to a glass container and refrigerate it a few hours for thicken before placing it in the bathroom.
