Debbie Owen, RD

Debbie has been a dietician for 28 years, providing medical nutrition therapy to individuals with hypertension, diabetes, eating disorders, bariatric surgery, hyperlipidemia, cancer, and food sensitivities. She loves teaching people on how to make simple lifestyle changes that will lead to greater quality of life.

Focused on Education

One of Debbie’s strengths is her ability to teach vital health information in an engaging way. She has experience teaching classes in weight management, pulmonary disease, corporate wellness, faith-based weight loss, general nutrition for college students, various renal topics, and menu planning. Debbie’s clients benefit from the wealth of knowledge she has to share.

Knowledgeable

  • B.S. in dietetics from Marywood University in Scranton, PA
  • Licensed in North Carolina
  • Extensive experience teaching courses on various nutrition topics

Passionate

Debbie is especially focused on providing nutritional counseling to individuals with chronic kidney disease. She says, “I feel there is a lack of nutrition support for those in Stages 1-4 and for those transitioning from Stage 4 to Stage 5 (dialysis), and I would like to provide that support for individuals in all stages of CKD.”

Encouraging

Debbie doesn’t believe in fad diets. She believes that most people who diet regularly either aren’t eating enough, are drinking calories rather than eating them, and/or are simply eating at the wrong time. Instead of dieting, Debbie encourages her clients to discover sustainable lifestyle changes that result in healthy eating habits and nutrition.

Real

Debbie moved from Upstate New York to North Carolina in September of 2020. She lives with her husband and two dogs in Asheboro, and she looks forward to exploring the state. She’s been married for 28 years. (Fun fact: Debbie met her husband at a roller skating rink as a teenager!) She has two grown children. Debbie enjoys yoga and meditation, camping, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her daughter and son-in-law. While she is a vegetarian by choice, she promises not to hold it against you if you enjoy meat, like her husband!
