Welcome to my Blog

OK, I have finally taken the leap into blogging. I have been saying since I started my business 2 years ago that I needed to blog so I have finally decided to just do it.

For those of you that don’t know me, I thought I would give you a little insight about me. I have always known that I wanted to be a dietitian. I remember being 16 years old and saying that nutrition sounded like a cool field to be in. I love to eat food, talk about food, and cook food so I figured that this would be a good way to do what I love. I went to UNC-Chapel Hill and graduated with a nutrition degree. From there, I went to UNCG to earn my master’s in nutrition and complete my dietetic internship. My first job was a clinical dietitian at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. When I was assigned to work on the cardiology floors, I thought that I was going to change the lives of many through my nutrition counseling and education. Well, I quickly realized that the patients were seeing me because their physician told them that they HAD to and not because they WANTED to. After 6 months, I transitioned to a different role in the hospital in the employee wellness department. This was the dream job because I was able to educate employees that were interested in nutrition.

Two years ago, I decided to fulfill another career goal by opening my private practice in Greensboro, NC. I truly love working with my clients and helping them achieve their personal nutrition goals-no matter how small or big they may be. My philosophy is to help my clients with goals that are practical and realistic to them. We take baby steps and look at what can we do ONE DAY AT A TIME to help reach their goals. I will not ask any of my clients to eliminate food groups, practice any fad diets, or purchase any special “diet” foods. I will not put any of my clients on a “diet” as I do not believe that these are long-term. I would rather focus on small, gradual changes that they can make and maintain for a lifetime.

I have over 11 years of experience yet I always learn something new from my clients. I find their testimonials so encouraging and motivating! There is so much good that can come from small changes in your lifestyle whether it be from switching to a high-fiber cereal, leaving off the fries from your typical fast food meal, choosing a piece of fruit for an afternoon snack instead of that candy bar, having a serving of vegetable with dinner, or preparing a meal at home instead of choosing the drive-thru.

If you are trying to lose weight, lower cholesterol or blood pressure, manage diabetes, or learn how to have a healthier lifestyle for you and your family, I would love to help you. Don’t hesitate to call me or email me to schedule your appointment!
