Just like everyone else, I tend to be rushing places, have a to-do list that is a mile long, multi-task at every possible moment to maximize my efficiency, and am trying to stay one step ahead of the game. I am a planner so I try to think ahead of all circumstances and situations and be prepared with food, snacks, water bottles, coats, etc. However, I am not perfect and I tend to forget things so I get excited when others help me in these situations and help take the pressure off.
Recently, I was traveling to a conference in Nashville, TN. I had my list of things that needed to get done at home for my family before I left, things at work that I needed to communicate in my absence, and the list of items that I needed to pack for my trip. One of the things that didn’t make it on my pack list is sunscreen. It could have been because when I left NC for Tennessee, we had not seen the sun for 10 days so sunscreen was definitely off my radar. At any rate, we had nice weather most of my time in Nashville. At my hotel, there was a table in the lobby that had sunscreen, hand sanitizer, and lotion on it for any guests to use. I thought it was so clever and I got really excited because they knew that it was important to some guests like myself yet we forgot to pack it so they were thinking of us and our well-being. Did I mention that I was staying at The Hampton Inn and not The Ritz Carlton or some other 5-star hotel where this level of customer service might be expected?
I was excited about the fact that they had sunscreen because I have a history of skin cancer (6 basal cell carcinomas have been removed in fact) so I like to protect my skin. I try to wear sunscreen everyday, always when outside for any length of time, and try to sit in the shade as much as possible. In the summer, I wear sun protective clothing even in the water! It is important to me to be protected by the sun and I was so excited to see that The Hampton Inn valued wellness and skin health as well for its guests and provided sunscreen for those of us that forgot to pack it. What are the little things that get you excited and make your life a little easier particularly when it comes to your health and wellness?
