Whenever I am talking with clients, I review the nutrients that they are missing in their diet and most of them are not getting the recommended amount of calcium and are getting less than 1 serving of dairy per day on average. When I ask about the dairy group, the most common response is “I am not a big milk drinker.” The good news is that you don’t have to be a milk drinker to get the benefits of the dairy group such as protein, calcium, and vitamin D. Yogurt is a great way to power up any meal or have as a snack. However, some yogurts can be loaded with added sugars and artificial sweeteners.
I have a new product that I want to share with you. It is Siggi’s yogurt. It is an Icelandic style yogurt so it is thicker than your typical yogurt. It does contain live , which are beneficial for gut bacteria. The 5-ounce container is 100 calories and 0 grams of fat, 14 grams of protein and 11 grams of sugar which are from natural cane sugar. One of the things that I love about this yogurt is that the ingredient list is small containing only 4 ingredients and all of them are ingredients that I can pronounce.
Siggi’s yogurts are just hitting the shelves at some of your local grocery stores so they can be hard to find as they are becoming more popular. Currently, they are available at Whole Foods and Harris Teeter. While I do enjoy all the flavors that I have been able to find at my local store, the raspberry is my favorite! So, if you are not a “big milk drinker,” then check out these yogurts and see if you can increase dairy intake today!
