Being Good to Yourself is a Good Start

Have you ever thought of beginning your lifestyle changes by pampering yourself? Revolutionary thought, isn’t it? Usually, by the time someone makes it to my office, they are feeling a bit low, not the best about themselves. Life has been tough, years have been spent caring for others, and health has taken a toll. So what should we do? Too often, the belief is that we should punish ourselves for “being bad” all those years and deny ourselves everything we enjoy in order to make up for lost time. That is one way to approach lifestyle change, but not a very enjoyable or effective one. I would like to suggest a better way. Much better!

Consider beginning your process by doing some things you love that are actually good for you; some things at which you will definitely succeed. And, not only succeed, but that will make you feel better physically and mentally. A massage, a manicure or pedicure, a make-over, a walk in the park, a nap, a good book and some tea; these are healthy pleasures and a wonderful way to regain your personal value and confidence before squaring off with your evening ice cream.

The better we feel about ourselves, the better we are to ourselves and a healthy lifestyle is an expression of a healthy relationship with yourself. It’s time to be good to you. The better you are to yourself, the better you will be.
